Product Overview

TAIRILOY® AC3100 is a polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS) alloy developed and produced by Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation (FCFC, a subsidiary of Formosa Plastics Group). It belongs to the high-impact, halogen-free flame-retardant injection molding grade PC/ABS family. The material is provided in natural or custom-colored opaque pellets, combining the heat resistance and dimensional stability of the PC component with the excellent processing flowability and low-temperature toughness of the ABS component. AC3100 typically achieves UL 94 V-0 (1.5 mm) / 5VA (3 mm) ratings through a halogen-free flame-retardant system. Q1: What is the recommended drying process for TAIRILOY® AC3100 before injection molding?

A: PC/ABS is hygroscopic. It is recommended to use dehumidifying drying at 90–100℃ for 3–4 hours, keeping the moisture content of the raw material below 0.05% to prevent silver streaks, bubbles, or surface haze. Melt temperature is typically set between 240–270℃, and mold temperature at 60–80℃, which helps reduce internal stress and improve surface gloss.

Q2: What are the differences in selection and application between AC3100 and pure PC?

A: AC3100 offers better processing flowability than pure PC, is less prone to stress cracking, has a lower cost, and achieves halogen-free V-0 flame retardancy. However, its heat resistance (HDT ≈ 90℃ vs. PC ≈ 125℃) and resistance to UV-induced yellowing are inferior to pure PC.
