TAIRILOY® AC3100 is a polycarbonate/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (PC/ABS) alloy developed and produced by Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation (FCFC, a subsidiary of Formosa Plastics Group). It belongs to the high-impact, halogen-free flame-retardant injection molding grade PC/ABS family. The material is provided in natural or custom-colored opaque pellets, combining the heat resistance and dimensional stability of the PC component with the excellent processing flowability and low-temperature toughness of the ABS component. AC3100 typically achieves UL 94 V-0 (1.5 mm) / 5VA (3 mm) ratings through a halogen-free flame-retardant system. It is a mainstream commercial grade in the Formosa TAIRILOY® series, specifically designed for housings of electronic, electrical, and IT peripheral equipment, and is widely used in the manufacturing of structural components that require a balance of appearance, flame-retardant safety, and molding efficiency.

The technical data sheet (TDS) of TAIRILOY® AC3100 material from Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation, if there are differences, please refer to the official website of Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation.
Halogen-Free Flame-Retardant System, UL 94 V-0 / 5VA Recognized: Meets the requirements for environmentally friendly flame retardancy (halogen-free) and high-level fire safety (5VA@3mm) in electrical and electronic products.
Excellent Impact Toughness: The room-temperature notched Izod impact strength reaches 420 J/m (ISO), maintaining good drop resistance in low-temperature and thin-walled applications.
Superior Processing Flowability compared to pure PC: The ABS phase provides lower viscosity and a wider processing window, making it suitable for molds used for housings with complex ribs, snaps, or long flow paths.
Balanced Heat Resistance and Dimensional Stability: HDT (1.8 MPa) ≈ 90℃ with uniform mold shrinkage (0.4–0.6%), facilitating precise size control of structural components.
Good Surface Decoration Adaptability: Strong adhesion to paints and silk-screen inks, making it suitable for appearance components that require subsequent painting or electroplating (requires dedicated electroplating grade; please inquire separately).
Electronic & IT Equipment: Laptop/monitor housings, printer/copier outer shells, server chassis panels, router/set-top box enclosures.
Home Appliances: Air conditioner control panel covers, vacuum cleaner body housings, small appliance external structural components (non-food contact).
Automotive Interior Components (Non-exposed): Dashboard covers, door handle bases, glove box housings, and other interior parts requiring flame retardancy and scratch resistance.
Industrial & Office Equipment: Instrument panels, POS machine housings, communication equipment frames, and other components requiring specific flame retardancy ratings.
(Note: Specific applications must be verified in combination with end-use environment factors such as UV exposure, chemical contact, and regulatory certification requirements.)
Q1: What is the recommended drying process for TAIRILOY® AC3100 before injection molding?
A: PC/ABS is hygroscopic. It is recommended to use dehumidifying drying at 90–100℃ for 3–4 hours, keeping the moisture content of the raw material below 0.05% to prevent silver streaks, bubbles, or surface haze. Melt temperature is typically set between 240–270℃, and mold temperature at 60–80℃, which helps reduce internal stress and improve surface gloss.
Q2: What are the differences in selection and application between AC3100 and pure PC?
A: AC3100 offers better processing flowability than pure PC, is less prone to stress cracking, has a lower cost, and achieves halogen-free V-0 flame retardancy. However, its heat resistance (HDT ≈ 90℃ vs. PC ≈ 125℃) and resistance to UV-induced yellowing are inferior to pure PC. If the application involves long-term high temperatures (>100℃) or outdoor exposure, heat-resistant PC or weather-resistant PC/ABS grades should be evaluated.
Q3: Does the product comply with RoHS / REACH and UL certification requirements? Can compliance documents be provided?
A: TAIRILOY® AC3100 complies with EU RoHS directives and REACH regulations regarding restricted substances (halogen-free flame-retardant system) and holds a UL Yellow Card. TDS, MSDS/SDS, and COA can be provided for each batch, and a Certificate of Compliance (CoC) can be issued upon customer request.
